Verdict: Recommended for all users with medium to high-performance PCs. F-Secure Internet Security offers very good protection with a simple interface, and runs well on any reasonably modern PC. Good technical support is available 24/7. The 3-user Antivirus licence represents excellent value at under £7 per PC.

Antivirus or Internet Security? We would recommend the Internet Security suite for non-experts, as it contains a Browsing Protection feature to warn of malicious websites. You may also appreciate the integrated anti-spam module, and Parental Controls may be valuable if you have children and your computer runs Windows XP or Vista Business, which do not have the feature built in. Experts may be happy to go for the simple Antivirus program.

Will it run on my computer? According to the manufacturers, F-Secure Antivirus/Internet Security 2010 runs on all versions of Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7, and needs a miniumum of 512 MB RAM. We would recommend a minimum of a 1 GHz processor for Windows XP, and a dual-core processor plus 1 GB RAM (ideally 2 GB) for Windows Vista/7. Protection: Very good. F-Secure achieved above-average scores in all 4 of AV-Comparatives' malware protection tests between November 2009 and February 2010. For more information, see Test Results.
Speed: Very good. F-Secure Anti-Virus received an Advanced+ award in this year's performance test by AV-Comparatives.
False Alarms: Outstanding. F-Secure Antivirus had the lowest rate of false alarms (falsely identifying harmless programs as viruses) of all programs tested by AV-Comparatives in August 2009, and the second lowest rate in February 2010.
Ease of use: Very good. The program interface is extremely clean and simple. Only important messages and queries are displayed.
Telephone Support: Very good. An efficient service is offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for UK users. We have called at 22:00 on a Saturday evening, and got an immediate reply from a very competent technician who solved the problem within a minute.The number is reasonably easy to find on the website.
Our experience with the program: Our experience with F-Secure is largely limited to testing, but he have been impressed so far.
Notes
The 2010 F-Secure programs appear to be much improved relative to earlier versions, in terms of both protection and speed.
