About Us

David is a Microsoft Certified Professional who became a computer enthusiast in 1995, and an IT professional in 2000. Past IT jobs include a year working for IBM. In 2003 he started an 18-month contract at the UK headquarters of a Finnish company, where he met John. In 2005, his contract having ended, David went into business by himself. For the past five years he has been running North Oxford Computer Services. He spends a lot of his working life helping people whose computers have been infected by malicious programs, or who have been the victim of scams. David has a particular interest in antivirus programs, and is a fan of Star Trek Enterprise (oh dear).

John is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, who has been working in IT for 20 years. Amongst many jobs, John has been IT manager for a Finnish company, with responsibility initially for the UK and then all of European operations. Corporate IT security was one of his most important tasks in this role. In 2007 he started Solutions Shared, and has been providing IT services to small businesses ever since. John has a particular interest in spreadsheets, and is a fan of Shania Twain (oh dear oh dear).

About this site

We both give advice to home and business PC users on computer security. This website started life as a rather boring advisory sheet which we sent to our clients. By making it into a website, we can keep it up to date with recent developments, share it with the world, and hopefully make it more interesting.

We are happy to make all of the advice on this site available to everyone for free, without any need to register. We will make absolutely sure that any advertising that appears here is from genuine security companies offering bona fide products. If you have found the site helpful to you, we would ask you to support us in the following ways. Firstly, do please tell your friends, family and colleagues about the site. Secondly, if you decide that you would like to buy one of the antivirus or Internet security products we have reviewed here, please click on the relevant link in our review. You will get exactly the same product at exactly the same price as if you had gone to the manufacturer's site directly, but we will make a small commission on the sale. We will never allow financial considerations to have any influence on the programs we recommend; apart from anything else, the last thing we want is to get a call from one of our clients, saying that the antivirus program we've recommended has failed to remove a virus, or gone into self-destruct mode.

If you like Stay Safe on the Internet, or you have suggestions for improvement, please let us know. You can mail us at the address below (sorry, you'll have to type it yourself; this is to avoid spam):

We regret that we are unable to provide a support service for virus-related problems. We do recommend antivirus programs that have good phone support, so we always recommend calling the manufacturer's help line for advice.
